I know, I know. Manhattans are not exactly a “holiday” drink. And I will drink them at other times of year. But there is something about drinking a manhattan in cold weather that makes me want to put it on this list.
So, there you have it.
Now, this is a drink that I like to make at home, and I make it rather often. I wouldn’t say I’m an expert (my expertise will reveal itself later on in this countdown), but I think I can make a damn good manhattan. You could look up a recipe online and it would say exactly what I’m about to say below, but I’ll share it nonetheless.
Things you’ll need:
- Sweet Vermouth
How to do it:
Put all the shit in a mixing glass with ice. STIR IT. (I break this rule often and I shake my Manhattans. But when I stir them they taste so much better. I just forget a lot.)
Strain the beverage into a chilled martini glass (up) or over ice in a tumbler (on the rocks), depending on how you like it. Garnish with a maraschino cherry. (Although brandied cherries, if you can find them, are a much better choice.)
So there you have it. Manhattan away!
(I would have taken a picture of my own manhattan, but unfortunately I am sick and wouldn’t be able to drink it. And I’m not going to make one just for a picture. Wasting alcohol is a SIN.)
